Girl Gang: The Process

ILLUSTRATION PROCESS

So I just started an illustration of this girl gang for fun, but it ended up taking me over 20 hours over the span of 3 days to finish - which doesn't SOUND like a long time, but for me, working more long term on something more detail oriented without finishing in a day was challenging.

That being said, I tried my best to document the process over time!

I was just bored one day and decided that I wanted to draw some cute girls in edgy outfits possibly wielding weapons? I don't know - I'm just of the opinion that girls should be given melee weapons to carry around in their daily lives.

I was going to stop with just these 3 girls, but for some reason I felt limited.

So I sketched out some more girls to add in frame, playing with placement of some closer in the foreground and some further out in the background.

I thought that the original outfit for the girl on the far left was boring, so I added an overlay houndstooth pattern on her skirt and that rainbow holographic bomber jacket. I also changed the hair color of the girl in the very back to purple because I wanted more contrast.

THEY'RE DONE. The "Body Is A Blade" on the back of the jacket is a reference to a Japanese Breakfast song by the same name (which the lead singer gave me a shout out for so my BEAN was FREAKED!)

I hope to make more long form pieces like this one because I was quite happy with the end result, and, most importantly, I really enjoyed the process!
